Creating Magical Cards with Brutus Monroe & Deco Foil

by Sue Doherty on May 12, 2026

Hello everyone, it’s Ellen here again taking over the blog. Today I would like to share 3 cards that are a little bit different from what I normally make. I created 3 Clean and Simple cards, also known as CAS cards. CAS cards focus on a simple design with only a few elements, while still creating a beautiful and eye-catching result. For today’s project, I used mainly the beautiful Brutus Monroe Magical Monarch Collection

Let me show how I made these three bright and magical butterfly cards.

I always like to start by sketching a few ideas before creating my cards. Once I had my designs planned out, I started working on the backgrounds.

First, I applied foil to toner cards using the gorgeous Brutus Monroe Really Radiant Toner Card and Brutus Monroe Magical Monarch Toner Card designs. I paired them with the stunning transparent foils: Brutus Monroe Magical Shattered Glass Foil, Brutus Monroe Magical Halo Foil, and Brutus Monroe Magical Sketch Foil. The transparent foils create such a magical shimmer and add beautiful detail to the cards.

After foiling, I ink blended the backgrounds using warm yellow and orange shades to give the cards a bright and cheerful look.

Next, I added sentiments to the cards using the Brutus Monroe Magical Monarch Clear Stamp Set. The elegant butterfly-themed sentiments worked perfectly with the colorful backgrounds.

For my first card, I used the Brutus Monroe Magical Monarch Die Set to cut a butterfly silhouette directly from the front panel of the card. Behind the opening, I placed one of the foiled toner card panels.

This design could easily be turned into a shaker card as well, but for this project I decided to keep it clean and simple.

On the second card, I let the foiled toner card become the main focal point.

This time I also added Plush Paper by die cutting the word “hugs” from the soft material and attaching it with Therm O Web iCraft 3D Foam Squares for extra dimension.

For the final card, I finished the design by stamping and die cutting a butterfly using the Brutus Monroe Magical Monarch Clear Stamp Set,  coordinating dies and stencil.

To complete all three cards, I added sequins using Therm O Web Zots Bling Adhesive Dots for easy embellishing. Of course, I also used several favorite adhesives throughout the projects, including Therm O Web iCraft 3D Foam Adhesive and the Gina K Designs Permanent Adhesive Runner.

I love how these cards turned out — bright, magical, and still wonderfully clean and simple. The combination of toner foiling, soft ink blending, and butterfly elements makes this collection so much fun to create with!
