Hello! Here is a cute, fun, and fairly easy way to handoff a Valentine to your little ones, friends, or loves! It's the perfect size to fill with treats, little trinkets, and more. It has a handy attached, ribbon tie to hold it all together. Use contrasting prints for the outer and linings to make it extra cute! You can make your own tie, or use a nice, cotton ribbon instead. For this tutorial, I'll show you how to make your own tie.

- Open the fold and take the top edge and fold into the middle crease and press.[gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-9.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-10.jpg|"]
- Repeat for the bottom edge.[gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-14.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-15.jpg|"]
- Fold in half lengthwise again and press.[gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-16.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-11.jpg|"]
- Edgestitch around the entire perimeter of the tie, sewing as close to the edges as possible. Set aside and make the body.[gallery size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-12.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-21.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-22.jpg|"]
Make the Body and Inner Lining
- Attach an 8" x 16" HeatnBond Interfacing rectangle to the back of an 8" x 16" cotton rectangle and press.
- Find the middle area of the front side of the outer body and mark a 1/2" line with a water-soluble pen.
- Now, take the tie and fold in half lengthwise. Make a marked line on the folded top crease.[gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-17.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-18.jpg|"]
- Align the ties marked area onto the marked line of the outer body and pin in place. Sew a 2" box around the area of the middle of the tie, where it is pinned and marked.[gallery size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-25-scaled.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-26.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-27-scaled.jpg|"]
- With wrong sides facing out, fold the outer body in half, aligning the top and bottom edges together. Sew a 1/4" seam on both sides making sure to backstitch from beginning to end.[gallery size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-31.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-32.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-33.jpg|"]
- Open the outer body's bottom corner by pushing out the corner with a stiletto or chopstick until you get a triangular shape.[gallery size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-34.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-29.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-30.jpg|"]
- Measure down 1 1/4" from the top tip and draw a line 2 1/2" line across. Sew along the drawn line, making sure to backstitch from beginning to end. Repeat for the other sides bottom corner.[gallery size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-37.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-38.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-39.jpg|"]
- Once sewn, trim the excess fabric left from each corner, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance.[gallery size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-40.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-35.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-36.jpg|"]
- Repeat steps 1 and steps 5-8 for the inner lining. You can skip making the tie as the lining doesn't need it.
Assemble the Bag
- Turn the outer bag right side out, smoothing out the bottom sides and popping out the corners.
- Insert the outer bag into the lining (lining should have wrong side facing out), tucking in the tie between the outer bag and lining, making sure that it's not near the top area (where it will be sewn).[gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-45.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-46.jpg|"]
- Clip the top in place and sew, using a 1/4" seam allowance. Leave a 3" opening and backstitch from beginning to end (this is where you will turn the bag right side out). **TIP: Take off your sewing table so you can sew the top area.[gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-42.jpg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Treat-Bag-50-scaled.jpg|"]
- Turn the bag right side out through the 3" opening, using a stiletto or chopstick to smooth out all the edges and corners. Press with an iron.
- Tuck the lining into the inside of the outer body, smoothing the bottom edges together and aligning the top edges together.
- Turn the 3" opening seam by 1/4" and hand sew the opening closed.
- Edgestitch a seam a close to the top edges as possible.
You are now done! You can fold the top edges down to desired size and use the tie to keep in place. You can also fold the top down and tie the bag in place too! Fill with your favorite treats and gift to someone you love!
