Snarky New Year Cards with Deco Foil

Hi there! It's Andrea with you sharing a couple of New Year cards featuring some gorgeous Deco Foil. Boy, do these sentiments sum up how we all feel about 2020 or what?! Now, we just have to cross our fingers and toes and pray really hard that 2021 is better and not worse, am I right?

Selective Foiling

To create my backgrounds, I first ink-blended white cardstock panels with Peacock Feathers, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot Distress Inks. I sprayed the back of Whimsy Stamps' Fireworks Stencil with Pixie Spray and masked around the fireworks with masking paper. I placed the stencil over each panel and used the Stencil Pal to apply a layer of Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo. Once the gel was dry (about an hour), I used my laminator to adhere the foils. For the background on the left, I used Gina K. Designs Fancy Foils Radiant Red, Brilliant Blue, and Glimmering Gold. To the background on the right, I applied Brutus Monroe Rainglow Foil Transfer Sheets.

Adding Glitz Glitter Gels

I wanted to add the rest of the stencil design with Glitz Glitter Gels, so I masked the portion I had stenciled with Transfer Gel. I then used a palette knife to apply the gels through the stencil. To the background on the left, I added Red Velvet, Brilliant Blue, and Gold, but only used Gold on the background on the right.

Finishing the Cards

That cute bear is from Taylored Expressions' Big Grumpy Bear set, and the sentiments are from a download they had on their website* (see info below). I colored the images with Copics and used the coordinating die to cut them out. I splattered both backgrounds with water and white paint. Once the panels were dry, I adhered them to cards with the Memory Tape Runner XL. I created the white frames by taping together two rectangle dies and die-cutting white cardstock. I affixed the frames to the panels with Mixed Media Adhesive. I popped up the bears with white foam squares and affixed coordinating sequins to the fireworks' centers with Mixed Media Adhesive.
