It is so fun to create little gifts with soft, cuddle fabrics. But let’s face it when sewing with those stretchy fabrics… we all tend to get a touch nervous.
Today’s tutorial will show you a few easy steps to make it easier and more enjoyable. ThermoWeb has products to make cuddle fabrics a cinch to sew a sweet bouquet of flowers for anyone.
SpraynBond Basting Adhesive Fabric Spray Soft Stretch Lite iron-on adhesive StitchnSew Sew-In Fleece Pressing Paper
Mark the "X" from the pattern onto the fleece with a permanent marker. This marks the top of the flower.
Repeat the process with the remaining StitchnSew Sew-In Fleece flower. Rub the flowers to make sure there are no wrinkles and cut around the flowers to make 2 fleece-backed Minky fabric flowers. Set them aside.
Use SpraynBond Basting Adhesive Fabric Spray to attach the StitchnSew Sew-In Fleece to the wrong side of the yellow fleece fabric center. Next, trace the eyes, pupils, and mouth to the paper side of the Soft Stretch Lite iron-on adhesive with a permanent marker to make the applique face pieces.
Fuse each piece to the wrong side of the fleece fabrics according to the package instructions. The eyes are white, the pupils are blue, and the mouth is red. Cut the pieces out and place them on the flower center as pictured. Place a piece of Pressing Paper over the top of the appliques and press with a dry iron set on high for 20 seconds.
Let cool. Finally, stitch around the applique pieces with matching thread and a zigzag, straight, or blanket stitch.
Stitch around the center circle with a zigzag, straight, or blanket stitch. The last step is to put the flower together and stuff it with fiberfill. Pin the front flower to the back flower with the wrong sides together matching the "X" markings.
Stitch around the petals 1/4" from the edge. Leave the petal marked with an "X" open at the top for stuffing the flower.
Stuff the flower lightly with fiberfill using a chopstick to help stuff it into the petals. Pin the opening shut and stitch the opening closed 1/4" from the edge, matching the previous stitching.
These are so fun to make and are so soft and cuddly. I hope they make you smile!
