My Travel Quilt Summer Fun Project

When summer arrives it means it’s time to go camping, swimming, boating, and all those other warm-weather adventures. It also can mean long trips in trains, planes, or automobiles to get where the fun will begin. “My Travel Quilt” will give you a nice way to snuggle in comfort or use as a mat to lounge on when you reach your destination. I used two layers of Stitch n Sew Fleece Sew-in High Loft to give the quilt extra padding when used as a mat and extra warmth to wrap up in. With the free cute “Summer Fun” applique blocks found on the Therm O Web blog HERE, it looks even sweeter!

My Summer Travel Quilt

"My Travel Quilt" is a free pattern that can be found HERE. “My Travel Quilt” is a perfect size at 40” x 40” and it has a pocket in the back to stow a few needed things like a tablet or phone. There’s even room in there for a snack! To get started on your quilt, you’ll need to make sure you have all your "Summer Fun" applique patterns ready using fabrics of your choice. The gingham fat quarter bundle has a gorgeous combination of colors! Of course, assembling “My Travel Quilt” was a breeze using my favorite Therm O Web products.

Purple Tape

The Purple Tape is a huge help when quilting...plus, it's a beautiful shade of purple! It doesn't leave any sticky residue, so laying it on your fabric won't hurt it. It makes a nice guide for quilting straight lines. Just sew along the edge of the tape and move it over as you finish each line. One piece of tape was used and moved for this quilt, tearing it to smaller pieces as it moved to shorter sections of the quilt. When quilting over applique, using Aurifil monofilament thread helps the applique designs show through. It's sturdy and will add a beautiful look to your quilts. Using two layers of Heat n Bond Fleece Fusible High Loft really gives it a nice extra bonus of padding. To put them together, cover a flat surface with a protective cloth. Lay one layer of the fleece on the protected surface. Lightly spray the face upside of the fleece with Spray n Bond. Lay the other section of fleece on top; light press in place.

SpraynBond Basting Spray

Use the Spray n Bond to layer your quilt back, batting/fleece, and quilt front to eliminate pins when you quilt. It really holds it together while you sew! You will love using an Oliso Iron when creating your blocks and projects. The new Oliso Project Irons are perfect for big or small jobs and they come with a silicone base to rest your iron on.

Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive

Adding a pocket to the back of a quilt is so easy! Fold a square piece of fabric in half to make a triangle. Press the fold and place the raw edges of the triangle in one corner. Squeeze a line of Fabric Fuse along the raw edges and finger press them in place. Let it dry. Once the glue dries, sew on your binding and that pocket is ready to be filled.
