Today, I will be doing a brief demo of the Merry & Bright Stocking pattern from Ellie & Mac Patterns. The pattern is free and is a great quick sew for last-minute holiday decor and gift-giving! Art Gallery Fabrics provided a beautiful cut of Twinkle Stars fabric (Style Number: LTO-9238) from the Little Town line designed by Amy Sinibaldi.
You’ll want to decide if you’d like to make the large or small. For this demo, I chose the small. It’s the perfect size for stuffing with trinkets and treats. The pattern stated that woven interfacing is optional for the outer fabrics. I opted to interface the outer pieces with HeatnBond Fusible Fleece and the lining pieces with HeatnBond Soft Woven Fusible to give it a bit more body. It's a good idea to cut the seam allowance from your fleece so that you can minimize bulk in the seams. I use a heat press, which compresses my fleece a bit, so I don’t usually trim the fleece from my seam allowance.
Do the same with your lining fabrics, but leave a 3-4” gap at the flat edge of the bottom for turning later.
Make your loop according to the pattern, taking the loop piece and folding it in half and pressing and then in half lengthwise once more. You’ll then topstitch along one edge
Take the outer portion of your stocking place inside of the cuff and align the raw edges at the top.
Then, place that completed piece right side out inside of your lining piece and sew around the top once more. You want to make sure you are sewing through the stocking outer, lining, cuff, and loop in this step.
These are such a quick sew, you could make several in an afternoon. Get creative! try things like lace overlays, fur cuffs, or even break out the vinyl cutting machine and personalize them. The possibilities are endless!
Happy Holidays!
