Hello Therm-O-Web friends! Designer Tamara here again! Today I am sharing some tips and tricks doing machine appliqué and Therm-O-Web products! I NEVER do appliqué work without my trusty Therm-O-Web goodies!
Supplies Used:
NEW Therm O Web Heat n Bond® Soft Stretch Fusible Adhesive in lite (coming soon!)
Therm O Web Spray N bond® Basting Spray
Digital embroidery file. I used this Sparrow from Planet Applique
Clothing item to embroider
Fabrics of choice. The Therm O Web designers used the gorgeous new fabric line from Moda, Manderly for all our of Quilt Market projects.
Thread
Scissors (I use curved appliqué scissors)
Mini Iron
And of course your machine, embroidery hoop, stabilizers, etc. I used a single needle Brother PE770 machine which is great!
Simple pull the paper backing off when you are ready for that fabric piece. I ALWAYS spray my fabric pieces with the Therm O Web Spray n Bond® Basting Spray. This stuff is fantastic! Sometimes the fabric pieces would shift under the needle while the machine did the tack down stitching. SO frustrating! And you don't really want to hold it down with your fingers either! Ever had a needle through your finger?! No, thanks! Spray a little basting spray, press it down over your embroidery blank, and them let the machine run! I love that it doesn't junk up your needle or leave a sticky residue.
After all my appliqué pieces are trimmed, right before the final satin stitches, I like to use a mini iron that fits inside my 5x7 embroidery hoop. This sets the Heat N Bond® and just makes all the fabric pieces flat and secure. Thanks to ThermOWeb products, machine appliqué is a breeze!
