At this point in the patchwork kite pattern you typically sandwich the pieced top and quilt it. Now - this is cute and all but how much more adorable would it be with some hearts appliqued to it? And that's just one of the reasons I love HeatNBond® Lite so much. It's a great way to raw edge applique to a project without making it crazy stiff like some fusible will.
Print out a copy of the "Full of Love Heart Templates" and lay a sheet of HeatNBond® Lite over it. The paper side should be facing you, the rough side facing the template. Trace some hearts ... it's your choice how many you'd like. You can see here that I did three large hearts and five medium hearts.
Roughly cut out the heart shapes you traced. Don't cut right on the lines you drew - you'll do that later.
On the wrong side of the kite scraps and the extra charm squares, press the rough cut heart shapes down. Now that they are fused to the one fabric, cut along the lines of the hearts.
Place the fused hearts in positions on the kite that look pleasing to you. Play around with this a bit so you make sure you get everything just how you want it. Peel the paper off the back of the fused hearts and press to set the hearts in place.
Sandwich the kite top with batting and backing. Using Aurifil 2530 stitch the edges of the hearts down.
I like how a blanket stitch looks.
Finish quilting, binding, and adding the tail. Before you know it you'll have an adorable patchwork kite with sweet little appliqued hearts thanks to Therm O Web!
