Hanging Embroidery Art

by Dori Troutman on August 15, 2025

Hello friends! Do you do embroidery artwork? I do not. Like literally, I don't ever embroider. That isn't to say that I never have. I've had times in my life when I did some cross-stitch and some simple embroidery but for some reason I've not found much joy in it. But recently I've felt moved to make some personalized embroidery art for my two little grand-daughters to hang in their bedroom. I wanted them to be a matching set but a little different as well. Here's the hard thing about this project. My 4th and littlest grand-baby, Emmaline, was born stillborn about 8 months ago; she was a perfect 6 pound baby girl. I searched some embroidery patterns online and didn't find anything that struck a happy chord in me. So I texted one of my favorite and bestie Instagram friends and asked her if she would design two embroidery patterns for me. Cheri @tinkerellen and her embroidery patterns and work are always just gorgeous perfection! She texted me right back and within a matter of a few hours she had put some patterns together for me to choose from. I chose what I wanted, she fine tuned them and the next day I was off and running.   [gallery columns="2" size="medium" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_7365-1.jpg|Before... ,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_7366-scaled.jpeg|and after!"]   I texted Cheri a few times with pictures like the one above ("what do I do here"?) during the process and to get some feedback on certain stitches, etc... She gave me so many good pointers and of course there are great YouTube embroidery tutorials as well. In case you've been waiting for the perfect time to make some embroidery wall art, this post is just for you! Because fabric is really my thing and I can't seem to ever do a project that doesn't incorporate fun fabric somewhere in it, I chose to finish my embroidery project with a fabric border and framed in a simple frame. I've written a tutorial for you, so you can do the same! I'm here to step you through it!

Supplies

Digging through my fabric scraps to find scraps that matched my thread colors was so much fun. Some of these are favorite prints I've sewn with in the past!   [gallery columns="2" size="full" ids="https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_7398-3.jpeg|,https://blog.thermoweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_7399-3.jpeg|"]   Adding some hand stitching to give these beautiful pieces of art gave them a final hand made touch and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out! I'd love to see yours! Be sure to tag me on IG @redfeedsack!
