From Fabric Scraps to Fabulous Tape

by Dori Troutman on January 19, 2026
Hello my sewing friends!!! Have any of you ever tried to make “fabric tape” and ended up completely unhappy with the results? ‍ I’m raising my hand high over here! I’ve tried, failed, and felt all the frustration that comes with it. (Mostly the frustration came from not finding the right tape to use with the fabric.)

And then… along came Thermoweb with the most amazing adhesive tape. Truly, it’s one of my most favorite products they have. Suddenly, making fabric tape felt easy—and actually fun! The PeelnStick Fabric Fuse is such an awesome product!

Today, I’m so excited to create some beautiful fabric tape, and of course, I’m bringing you along with me.

Supplies

This tutorial is so simple and really such a satisfying make! Plus, who doesn’t love working with those favorite little fabric scraps you’ve been saving for just the right project?

I wanted to have my fabric tape handy and ready to use whenever I felt like adding a special touch to a letter, a package, or a gift. Then it suddenly hit me—why not use my little vintage wooden spools to hold it? And wow… what a totally fun way to store it, display it, and gift it!

You can also place some cut fabric tape in a plastic sleeve and gift to a friend that really needs it in their life!

Fabric tape is one of those fun things... the more you use it, the more you love it. I've recently taped a piece to an old clothespin and attached that to a gift. It made it so unique and fun.
