Let’s take a look at the process step by step.
Start by placing your stencil onto your cardstock. To keep everything perfectly in place, I use Pixie Tape. This low-tack tape holds the stencil securely without tearing the paper when removed. A well-secured stencil is key for clean foiled designs.
Next, apply the Gina K. Designs Fuse Foiling Gel over the stencil. I like using the Deco Foil Stencil Pal for this step because it helps spread the gel smoothly and evenly across the stencil openings.
Make sure you apply a thin, even layer—too much gel can cause smearing, while too little may result in patchy foiling. Once the stencil is covered, carefully remove it and let the gel dry completely. This step is important; the gel must be fully dry before foiling.
When the gel is dry, place a piece of Deco Foil (shiny side up) over the gel design and run it through the Fuse Foiling System Laminator. The heat activates the gel and transfers the foil beautifully onto the cardstock.
Once it comes out of the machine, gently peel away the foil to reveal a crisp, shiny foiled pattern.
For the sentiments, I first adhered the Plush Paper to Deco Foil Foam Adhesive Sheets before die cutting. This is a great trick to add instant dimension and a soft, luxurious look to your word dies.
After die cutting the “Birthday” and “Hoera” (= hooray in Dutch) titles, they were ready to pop right off the backing and stick perfectly to my cards—no extra foam or glue needed.
To assemble the rest of the cards, I used liquid glue to adhere all the detailed elements. With so many small pieces—like the animals, accessories, fences, and layered die cuts—liquid glue gives you the control and flexibility you need.
I apply small dots of glue to the back of each piece and use the fine tip to reach narrow areas and tiny details. Liquid glue allows a little wiggle time, so everything can be positioned just right before it dries. It also creates a strong bond, even for layered embellishments.
Foiling with Gina K. Designs Fuse Foiling Gel is easy, versatile, and so much fun. Whether you’re creating bold backgrounds or subtle accents, this gel pairs beautifully with stencils and Deco Foil. I hope this inspires you to give foiling a try on your next project!
Happy crafting!
