First Birthday Scrapbook Page with Fancy Foil!

by Jessica Michaels on June 05, 2026

Hi friends! Jessica here! 😊

Hey friends, welcome back! Today I'm sharing a first birthday scrapbook layout for my daughter — and it might be my favorite page I've ever made. We've got real party details, a Day 5 sketch from 30 Days of Sketches Series, and coral foil that sparkles every time the light hits it. Let's get into it!

  1. Start with the sketch. I used the Day 5 sketch from the 30 Days of Sketches Facebook group as my foundation. I followed it pretty closely — having a sketch to work from kept me from second-guessing my photo placement and let me focus on the fun stuff.
  2. Create the foil accent piece. I needed a background accent to match the sketch placement, so I reached for the Birthday Wish Toner Card Fronts and paired them with Gina K Sunkissed Coral Fancy Foil. I ran them through my Fuse Foiling System Laminator to add that warm shimmer. This ended up being one of my favorite elements — the coral foil just glows.

  1. Mat the background piece. I matted the foiled piece on white Bazzill cardstock using Thermoweb 1/2" Easy Tear Tape. The white mat gives it a clean border and makes the coral shimmer pop without competing with anything else on the page.
  2. Place your photos. These are birthday party shots from my daughter's first birthday, so I wanted them front and center. I used the Memory XL Tape Runner to adhere them — it gives a strong, flat hold with no bumps under the photos.
  1. Add the statement embellishment. I saved her macramé rainbow cake topper from the party and used it as the large focal embellishment on the layout. For something with texture and weight like this, I used a combination of Medium Glue Zots and Mixed Media Adhesive — the Glue Zots tack it in place fast and the Mixed Media Adhesive gives a secure long-term bond underneath.

  1. Layer in the embellishments. I filled in the gaps with chipboard pieces and laser cuts from 49 & Market's Glimmer and Glee collection. The mix of flat laser cuts and dimensional chipboard gives the page some visual variety without going overboard.
  2. Stamp your journaling. I stamped phrases in black ink all the way around the layout. Rather than writing in a journaling block, I scattered the words around the edges for a more playful, organic feel — almost like the page itself is talking.

  1. Step back and admire. Honestly, the foil is what makes this layout. Every time the light catches the Sunkissed Coral it sparkles, and it pulls together the coral tones in the photos and the Glimmer and Glee pieces in a way that feels cohesive without being matchy-matchy.
