Field Notes Mixed Media Plaque With Deco Foil Flock

Hello everyone and thank you for stopping by, it's Deb Riddell here with you today to share a mixed media project created with Therm O Web's wonderful new Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets! I used Sunshine Yellow, Blue Diamond, and Black Velvet Flock Transfer Sheets and couldn't resist a little play on the word 'flock' when I designed my avian-inspired mixed media plaque.

In working with the Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets I have discovered that the colour of the transferred flock is influenced by the colour of the substrate that you are transferring it to. So I have explored that wonderful attribute of Deco Foil Flock further on this project by transferring the flock onto patterned scrapbook papers with the help of iCraft Easy Cut Adhesive Sheets. Field Notes Deco Foil Flock Plaque Instructions:

Apply iCraft Easy Cut Adhesive Sheet to a couple of pieces of soft yellow and/or beige patterned scrapbook papers (this is Memoranda Paper Stash) and adhere the Sunshine Yellow Deco Foil Flock to both pieces (remember when using the Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets that the flock side of the transfer sheet is applied to the adhesive). Peel off the flock sheet backing paper to reveal the flocked patterned scrapbook paper; I love how you can see the pattern details through that wonderful flock texture! [tooltip text="TooltipText"]Hint: To ensure good adhesion and transfer of the flock, run it through either your die cutting machine or your foil laminator on the cold setting.[/tooltip] Repeat the same process with blue and/or grey patterned scrapbook papers, this time flocking it with the Blue Diamond Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheet. Die cut two birds from the blue flocked scrapbook paper (this die set is Feather & Ravens). Die cut two more birds from the Sunshine Yellow flocked scrapbook paper, reversing the bird die cuts so they are facing the opposite direction. Cover kraft cardstock with iCraft Easy-Cut Adhesive and apply Black Velvet Deco Foil Transfer Sheet to it. Die cut one more bird from it with the Bird Branch Bigz die and also die cut a smaller branch with the branch die from the Feather & Ravens die set. Cut a piece of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock to 5 1/2" x 7" and ink it with Distress Inks (Shabby Shutters, Old Paper, Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive). Randomly stamp the inked cardstock with the Papillon script stamp and Leaf Green Archival Ink.

Deco Foil Transfer Gel

Did you know that you can use Deco Foil Transfer Gel as a gloss texture medium?! Stencil your stamped and inked cardstock with a floral stencil using the Deco Foil Transfer Gel, keeping everything securely in place with Purple Tape (the Blossom and Flourish Layering stencils were used here). Let the Transfer Gel dry thoroughly (about 1 hour). Here's a closeup of the beautiful glossy textured design that you get with the Deco Foil Transfer Gel, a lovely subtle accent that catches the light on your mixed media backgrounds. Prepare a backing piece for your stenciled background by cutting a piece of Gina K. Designs Luxury White Premium cardstock to 6 1/2" x 8" and edge it with washi tape to frame your stenciled background (this is Aristocrat Design Tape). I always add a bead of iCraft Ultra Bond adhesive underneath the washi tape to make sure that it remains securely adhered to the cardstock. Distress the edges of your inked and stenciled background if desired and center it over top of the washi tape framed backing piece, adhering it in place with your Memory XL Tape Runner. Ink a small #1 manila hang tag with Distress Inks (Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint). Die cut the word 'flock' from the remnants of the Black Velvet flocked cardstock that you used for the Bird Branch die cut (this is the 3/4" Alphanumeric die set). Add a small bird sticker over the hole in the manila tag (K & Company Flora & Fauna Typewriter Keys Grand Adhesions were used here) and adhere the flocked letters with iCraft Ultra Bond Adhesive. Ink the 'field notes' Quote Chips with green Distress Inks, spritz lightly with water and adhere the Quote Chips to the bottom left corner with iCraft Ultra Bond Adhesive. Adhere the prepared hang tag to the upper right corner of your prepared background. Adhere the Bird Branch die cut and the smaller flocked die cut branch as shown using more iCraft Ultra Bond Adhesive. Add Gina K. Designs Foam Squares underneath the remaining flocked die cut birds and arrange as shown. I adhered the perching birds feet to the branches with iCraft Ultra Bond Adhesive. If desired, add an Easel die cut or hanger to the back of your project for display and your Field Notes mixed media plaque is complete! Here are a few close-ups of the finished project. I couldn't resist the wordplay, a flock of flocked birds LOL! You can catch a peek of the glossy texture in the background from the stenciled Deco Foil Transfer Gel here plus some of the dimension you achieve by popping the birds up on the Gina K. Designs Foam Squares.
