Faux Gold-Leaf Christmas Ornaments

Happy December All! Wendy here with a fun foiled ornaments project to share. Quickly and easily create a high-end gold leaf look using inexpensive foil! These ornaments with their cute tags would make great teacher or co-worker gifts and will add a bit of sparkle to the tree! Supplies: Deco Foil Transfer Sheets - Gold Rebekah Meier Designs - Mixed Media Medium Paper House Patterned Paper Paper House 3D Stickers Paper House Life Organized Stickers Paper House Life Organized Washi Tape   Other Supplies: Clear plastic ornaments, craft paint or spray dye, glitter, gold twine, gold metallic paper, cardstock, liquid adhesive and snowflake & bow dies.

Christmas Ornaments:

Step One: Start by mixing some basic school glue and water into a cup to make it runny enough to move easily. Add some paint or dye into the glue mixture and pour into the ornament. Cap and shake the ornament to make sure the glue/color mixture coats the entire inside. Uncap and turn the ornament upside down into a cup to allow excess to drip out. Hint: I used both paint and dye. I put only one drop of paint and then sprayed dye liberally to increase intensity. The paint helps it to be more pigmented but by using mostly dye the color remains less opaque so that the next step is visible. Step Two: Create a small funnel using copy paper (see above picture) and pour a matching color glitter into each ornament, cap and shake to distribute the glitter. Hint: If you don't have a variety of glitter colors, use a clear glitter for all ornaments. Another thought (that I had after they were completed lol) was to try spraying Glitter Dust into the glue mixture before pouring it in to see if you get the same effect. Please comment on this post if you try it! Step Three: Apply Mixed Media Medium to the lower one-third to one-half of each ornament and allow to dry thoroughly. Hint: If you do not have the Mixed Media Medium you can use a Deco Foil Liquid Adhesive to apply adhesive to the ornament and continue to Step Four. Step Four: Once the adhesive is completely translucent, apply Deco Foil in the color Gold (or any desired color) to all areas where you applied the medium. [tooltip text="TooltipText"]Tip: I cut my Foil Transfer Sheets into smaller squares to make it more manageable. This also made it easier to use every bit of foil I could from each piece.[/tooltip] Step Five: Create small tags from the Paper House patterned paper (the snowflake paper used is from the Christmas Joy line) and embellish using die-cuts and Paper House stickers. Hint: If you do not have a die-cutting system, embellish solely with Paper House stickers! Step Six: Add Washi Tape and tags to ornaments and add to the tree! Hint: Use the back of the tags to address the gift to your intended recipient. Happy Christmas Crafting!
