Fashion Friday: Out of this World Skirts

It's time for another Fashion Friday! Today's project features some fun and funky skirts that Designer Jennifer Davey created with the addition of our HeatnBond® Soft Stretch Lite and our Glitter Dust™ Spray (that's right) lend the perfect help! My dear teen daughter is spunky and likes her wardrobe to match. Today I am delighted to share the two skirts that share her spark. A metallic knit pencil skirt and a sparkly space skirt.

Fashion Friday: Out of this World Skirts

The Metallic Knit skirt sews up so fast using the Patterns for Pirates: Pirate Pencil Skirt pattern & HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE. I get the perfect finish using a serger and a cover stitch machine but using a stretch stitch and a double needle on a standard machine totally works too. After pressing the HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE in place the hem is perfectly set for a double needle stitch. To achieve the perfect placement when using a double needle: Place hem wrong side up under your needles, lower the needle so you can see that the needles will straddle the hem, one on and one off. Use PeelnStick™ Ruler Tape to mark where the finished hem length hits on your sewing machine. Next, flip fabric around with right side up and hem around skirt using Ruler Tape as your guide to the perfect hem every time. The Ruler Tape removes without a trace.   Space Skirt was inspired by a fun SNL sketch with space pants and Gwen Stefani. The skirt uses New Look 6313 view B. I used HeatnBond® Woven Fusible Soft for just the right soft structure and Glitter Dust™ for added sparkly stars. The sparkle continues with the addition of rhinestones on the larger stars. Circle skirts hem very nicely with a rolled hem. If your machine didn't come with one I highly recommend that you purchase one to fit your machine. The roll of the foot feeds the fabric into a beautiful shirt tail style hem and the machine stitches right along the folded edge.
