The holidays are by far my favorite time of year and having a little one this year makes them even more special! This year we aren’t doing a big tree because my little dude will pull it down so instead, we have mini trees all over the house! The ornaments and tree are housed in my craft room and are my favorite of them all!! I love putting a modern twist on something traditional.

Supplies: Thermoweb Fabric Fuse™ Thermoweb HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece Various scraps of square or rectangular shape between 3”-6” (2 to 3 per ornament 1 fat quarter for ornament backing Ribbon for hanging loop or selvedge Oliso Smart Touch Iron Additional Supplies: Pinking Shears, Scissors, Rotary Cutter, Rulers, Thread, Needle, Pins, Sewing Machine

Modern Tree Christmas Ornament Instructions:

Fuse the Fusible Fleece to your fat quarter for the backing of each ornament. Pick your first few scraps to work with, one for backing and 1 to 3 for trees. Make sure the background and the trees are contrasting enough to stand out. Take your tree fabric and cut out a triangle. The key is to just wing it. I started with my ruler on one of the bottom corners and cut across to the middle of the top. Then repeat for the other side. I like them a little wonky. Now place your trees onto your background fabric and trim the background to be at least a 1/4” around the parameter of your tree. Fuse the tree to the background fabric by using the fabric fuse liquid adhesive. Let dry. Place your fused front tree and background onto the fat quarter/fusible fleece. Trim out the backing to the same size as the front. Pin together. Take your pinking shears and cut around the entire parameter to prevent fraying and to add a decorative look. Cut your ribbon or selvedge to 3” long and pin it at the top of your ornament in-between the front and back. Sew a scant 1/4” stitch around the entire ornament. You can choose to hang your ornament as is or top stitch around each of the trees for decoration! Make twenty more and decorate your tree!!! Happy Holidays and happy sewing!
