 Deco Foil a 4th of July T-Shirt

We saw a very cute idea from Sugarbee Crafts where she created a similar patriotic t-shirt using our HeatnBond iron-on adhesive with bandanas. Be sure to check out her tutorial. That inspired us to rethink the design using our Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive Sheets and bright, shiny Deco Foil Transfer Sheets. Did you know you can use Deco Foil on fabric and apparel? Let's get started.

Supplies Needed:
iCraft® Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Adhesive Sheets
iCraft® Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheets in Red and Ocean Blue
iCraft® Deco Foil™ Craft & Carrier Sheets
T-Shirt
Iron
Cricut cutting machine (optional) or manual star-shaped dies and die-cut machine

4th-of-July-Step-1

Directions:
1. Cut a piece of the Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Adhesive large enough for all three stars and place it adhesive side down onto the wrong side of the Ocean Blue Deco Foil. The wrong side is the matte silver gray side.

2. Preheat iron to warm/medium heat setting with no steam. Firmly press adhesive to foil for 30 seconds to ensure a good bond. Move the iron around in a slow, firm motion over the area.

3. Cut a piece of the Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive large enough for the stripes and repeat Step 2 to adhere it to the back of the Red Deco Foil Transfer Sheet.

4. Use a die-cut machine or digital cutter to cut out stars and stripes as shown. You can also cut everything by hand; simply trace or sketch star shapes onto the paper liner of the Hot Melt Adhesive Sheet and cut out. Use a paper trimmer to cut even stripes. You can also use craft punches to create the stars. It's a very versatile design.

5. Next, position the cut pieces on the t-shirt using the photo as a guide.

6. Carefully lay a parchment paper Deco Foil Craft & Carrier Sheet over the design and press firmly for 30 seconds. Move the iron around in a slow, firm motion over the area.

7. Allow the Deco Foil design to cool completely, then carefully peel away the clear plastic layer from the designs.

8. You can create this shiny look on cotton towels, placements, tablecloths, even quilts! iCraft® Deco Foil™ is washable on fabric; we do recommend washing items inside out on the gentle cycle and allowing them to air dry to preserve the shiny, foiled finish.

9. Another way to create foiled apparel is to cut the shapes directly from the Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive Sheet and fuse them to your garment or fabric following the package directions; allow to cool and peel away the paper liner. Then, cut pieces of Deco Foil slightly larger than the adhesive shapes and fuse them, shiny side up, over the adhesive; allow to cool and peel away the excess foil. This is a great method if you'll be tracing shapes onto the paper side of the adhesive liner and then cutting them out.

Happy 4th of July!
