Custom Ironing Board Cover: Make It Pretty

by Dori Troutman on August 20, 2026

Hello friends! I don’t know about you, but I love having a cheerful ironing board cover, and they are so hard to find! But guess what? They are so simple to make with just a little sewing experience, and I’m here to step you through making one of your own! (And if you have barely any sewing experience you can do this!!)

The supplies are very few:

  • Fabric: Either a large piece 20” x 60” or large scraps (sample uses Calico Cowgirls Collection and Country Confetti Basics by Poppie Cotton)
  • Binding: 1/4 yard fabric
  • Thermoweb Bliss Cotton Quilt Batting
  • Insul-Bright heat-resistant batting (The Warm Co.)
  • Elastic: 3 yards of 1/4-inch wide
  • Bodkin or large safety pin
  • General sewing supplies
  • Custom Ironing Board Cover

I have made several projects with the new Bliss Cotton Batting, and here’s the main thing I have to say about it… whoever came up with the name “bliss” was spot on!!! Because that’s all I can think of when I touch it! It truly is the most blissful quilt batting I’ve ever worked with! It sort of felt like a waste to use it on this ironing board cover (I kinda wanted to save it for another quilting project!) but when I was finished, I was so completely happy with the soft and perfectly smooth way it made my ironing board cover feel! So… buy it and use it!

I don’t know about you, but I think one of the best things about learning to sew is turning “run of the mill” items into custom-made, and this ironing board cover is the best!

Be sure to share with me on my Instagram @redfeedsack if you make the ironing board cover or if you have any questions! Have a wonderful month, and I’ll see you in September with another great sewing project!
