Hi there friends! It's Amy from Ameroonie Designs here again with a fun holiday treat for you! 'Tis the season for handmade gifts. But, it is also a busy season, and as much as I would love to give elaborate handmade gifts, there simply isn't enough time in the day. Because of this, I love giving a little something handmade, even if the main gift is mostly store-bought. So, if you can relate, and need something simple and sweet to gift, I have just the project for you! These Christmas Tree mug rugs are small and simple but pack a festive punch!
Package one up with some hot chocolate or tea, a mug, and a treat and you have a darling gift anyone would love!
Begin by preparing your applique pieces. Print or trace the tree pattern onto the paper side of the Heat n Bond Lite. Cut out each tree leaving a slight margin all the way around. Fuse the Heat n Bond on the wrong side of the tree fabric following the package instructions. Next, cut out each tree on the pattern lines. Remove the paper backing from the trees.
Position the trees on one of your 5" X 7" pieces of fabric. I stitched mine down while I was doing the free motion quilting, but if you aren't going to do that, stitch around the edges of each of the applique trees using a straight stitch or a narrow zig-zag stitch.
Now, create your quilt sandwich using the two pieces of fabric and your fleece or batting. Baste the layers together, use basting spray, stitches or pins. Quilt as desired. Add binding using your favorite binding method and your mug rug is finished!
These mug rugs are really addicting to make because they are such a fast finish. Don't be surprised if you find yourself making more than one! Which is handy, because you can always gift one and then keep one for yourself!
Happy Holiday stitching everyone! xoxo, Amy
