Celebrate Card with Glitz Glitter Gel

by Thermoweb on June 24, 2020
Hello there! Have you been enjoying our "Land That I Love" week? Because I'm an American, the first things that pop into my mind are the colors red, white and blue and fireworks. Every July 4th, my neighborhood goes crazy with people shooting off fireworks (I definitely have a love-hate relationship with this, let me tell ya.), so I decided to make a card with fireworks. The Glitz Glitter Gels are perfect for this (Deco Foil would also make beautiful fireworks)!

Blending the Background

I first trimmed an A2 panel of Bristol cardstock. Working from the bottom, I blended with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide. Next, I added Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot. I went back and forth between the colors a couple of times to get a smooth blend.

Creating Fireworks with Glitz Glitter Gel

I first sprayed the back of my stencil with Pixie Spray. The spray not only keeps the stencil from shifting but also creates a "seal" with the paper to hinder seepage of the gel. I masked around the center firework with purple tape and used a palette knife to spread Gina K. Designs White Glitz Glitter Gel. While I waited for the white gel to dry, I stamped and colored my images. Once the white gel was dry, I aligned the stencil on the panel. Again, I used purple tape to mask areas I didn't want to stencil and then spread Red Velvet and Brilliant Blue Glitz Glitter Gels. I am so impressed at how well the colors show up on the dark background, and the shine is just gorgeous!

Assembling the Card

Designs Terrific Tape. I attached a die-cut border with Mixed Media Adhesive and popped up my colored images with Gina K. Designs Foam Squares. After layering my die-cut word with Mixed Media Adhesive, I affixed it to my card with foam squares, trimming them as needed.
