Hi! It’s Lisa Ruble from Quilty Zest and I’m excited to share my Bunny Buddies with you!

These are my fabric interpretation of the classic Easter treat - Peeps - but on a larger scale. And of course I used my Nature Unfiltered fabrics from Benartex - so many fun spring-y colors!
When I received Thermoweb’s new VersaFoam Stabilizer, I knew it would be perfect for some dimensional figures, and bunnies are it! I also created the basket which has a woven look thanks to the striped fabric I used. Find the video tutorial for the basket HERE.

Let’s get started!
Materials (for 1 bunny):

Download the bunny template here.
Cutting:
From the fat eighth: (2) 5”x10” rectangles
From the VersaFoam: (2) 5”x10” rectangles
Make the Bunny
- Place (1) 5”x10” VersaFoam rectangle fusible side up. Position (1) 5”x10” fabric rectangle right side up over the VersaFoam, aligning raw edges. Fuse to secure the layers together. Repeat with remaining VersaFoam and fabric rectangles.

- Cut out the bunny template. Trace the template onto one VersaFoam/fabric unit on the non-fusible side of the VersaFoam.

- Layer the two VersaFoam/fabric units with fabric right sides together and the traced bunny on top. Pin the layers together, keeping the pins inside the bunny shape.

- Using a walking foot – this is key – because the layers are thick! – and matching thread, stitch on the line. Leave a 3”-4” opening along the bottom bunny edge for turning. Backstitch at the beginning and end of the stitched bunny shape.

- Here’s what your bunny should look like.

- Cut out approximately ¼” past the stitched bunny line. Clip the tight corners by the ears and above and below the head shape, being careful not to cut through the stitches.

- Carefully and patiently turn the bunny right side out. I found the combination of a turning tool (the rounded end, not the pointy end) and a pencil helped the most with turning. Use the eraser end of the pencil to poke the ears. Use the rounded end of the turning tool to smooth out the curved edges of the head and body.

- Once the bunny is completely turned right side out, tuck the raw edges in along the bunny bottom to create a smooth edge. Use binding clips to secure the edge. Using your choice of hand stitching or machine stitching, sew the opening closed. Note: You can also lightly stuff the bunny with fiberfill for a little extra body. In the photo at the bottom, the yellow bunny is stuffed with fiberfill.

- Use Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive to secure a white pom-pom to the back side of the bunny. Allow to dry before handling. Your bunny is done!
