Before we start stitching, a quick, heartfelt note: our friend Gracie from Burlap and Blossom was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. Her designer friends are rallying to share her shop and designs while she focuses on treatment — if you’re able, please visit her shop and send some love. Today’s clover block is one of those designs, and making it is my small way of putting comfort into fabric.
This sweet little clover block makes a fast, cheerful table topper — perfect to stitch in an afternoon and gift to someone who needs a smile. I used two of my favorite helpers from Thermoweb in this project: SpraynBond Basting Adhesive for gentle, repositionable hold, and HeatnBond Fusible Fleece to give the topper a soft, cozy loft. They make the process easier and more enjoyable, without any fuss.

Would you like to make one too? Here are the supplies:

For small projects, labeling saves so much time and confusion. I’ve used Alphabitties to mark my cut pieces: If you’re following a pattern with many small pieces, this trick is a sanity-saver. Or if you can’t finish the project during one sitting, it is nice to have all the pieces labeled and ready to go for your next sewing session.

When it’s time to assemble, I reach for my Fork Pins. They make aligning seams and easing curves so much easier because the forked design holds fabric layers without shifting. These are my favorite and if you haven’t tried them out yet, you should try them!

Once the clover block is stitched, I fuse a piece of HeatnBond Fusible Fleece to the wrong side of the quilt block to add a cozy loft. HeatnBond Fusible Fleece is wonderfully forgiving: it presses on cleanly and gives the block structure without feeling stiff. I also use the SpraynBond Basting Spray if pieces of the quilt block don’t adhere. Or if you are using plain batting, this SpraynBond is what I reach for every time.

I decided to do a fun crosshatch quilting design on my clover block. I think it looks sew cute! Now I need to trim off the extra fleece.

The finished topper — a crisp white background, two-toned green clover, gently quilted, and bound with a bright green binding. It’s the kind of small project that finishes quickly and delivers big charm. Use it on a side table, under a vase (like me!), or pop one in the mail to a friend who could use a pick-me-up and a bit of luck!
